An analysis of the figures shows
that a big increase has taken triece
along all lines during the past
years. In 1911 there were 4186 firms
and companies doing business in this
city and adjoining districts while In
1912 there were 4670; in 1913 tl —
were 6688 and this year a»88.
Several changes In the make up of
the directory have been effected In
the 1914 number. With the rapidly
Increasing population the volume
grew In size each year until If the
same system had been followed It
would have attained unwieldy proportions. Last year a condensation
method was adopted. This year
smaller face type Is used and although
495* more names are Hsted the volume haa 136 leas pages. A system of
abbreviations also effects a conservation of space. The 1914 edition la
slightly smaller, and haa a different
binding which distinguishes tt from
the earlier edition's.
